What is a warrior?

Today we celebrate Veteran’s Day. A day set aside to honor our veteran’s and those currently serving in our armed forces. A day set aside to acknowledge that everything we have, all our “rights”, were bought with a price and the payments for keeping them are still coming due.

I have been blessed. There have been veteran’s in my life since I was born, both my parents tried to sign up and my son did. I will tell you now, this has completely influenced the way I look at life. Every day is training for tomorrow. A challenge is not a problem but a new way to see what I know and what I can learn. I am still learning that dedication is not a bad word nor is it a temporary thing, It is to the death. I am still learning that to love something, to dedicate yourself to protect it, is to make a commitment just like what our marriage vows used to be like.

In God’s word, He tells us in both the old and new testaments that there is a war going on. He tells us that we are valued in this war. One side values us as a way to hurt the other and One side values us because He created us. Satan uses people as pawns. While he sees their potential value as shock troops, he also sees us as disposable. He wants us, not because of any value we have to him but because of the pain and damage he can inflict through us an not just the people in our lives but also on the God who loves us.

The following was written by Paul Bradford a revivalist from Louisiana.

So,I’m picking myself up off the canvas again, the familiar taste of my own blood in my mouth.Looking across the ring at the mocking grin of and old acquaintance,Pain.Notice that he is not a friend, just an acquaintance.HIS friend, also in the ring with us,is “The Adversary” (these guys always gang up on you).Truth told, I wish I didn’t know these buzzards so well, but their consuming hatred of my calling means that we have danced this dance before and perhaps again until I depart this mortal coil.Funny thing about blood;it isn’t just a sign of the wounds you carry,it is also a secret weapon.Suddenly, the wicked jeering stops as their eyes adjust to a presence standing near me,towering above us all.Yep,I have a “Friend” too. He’s so much tougher than you and has the scars to prove it.He is “near” to me for I make sure I stay near Him.What’s that you say?”No Mas?” How about,”Let’s dance”? Isaiah 50:8 read all of it…Think I just heard my Ringman, H.G. “The Counselor”Spirit, laugh out loud.”keep you hands high Kid,watch his left, and keep singing…”

God sees us as sons and daughters. If we have accepted Christ’s sacrifice for our lives and accept Jesus, as savior and Lord, God becomes our Father. That means we become His family and His family becomes my family. And in God’s family we protect each other.

If you have never known this kind of family it can be so hard to trust that people will protect you, especially when we want the people in our family to be perfect, to always be there to protect us. However in this family God wants to grow strong warriors, warriors who will depend on Him.

[Isa 50:7-9 KJV]

7 For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. 8 [He is] near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who [is] mine adversary? let him come near to me. 9 Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who [is] he [that] shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

God _never_ fails us. Maybe He doesn’t do things like we would like them to be done _but_ God never fails us. We are His family, we are the pieces of His heart that he has placed on earth to complete His mission. We are infinitely valuable to him, and He knows exactly what we can do when we follow His orders.

I love to pray. I love to teach. I love to read. I love to talk about God.
